FULL TEXT OF THE GOODWILL MESSAGE BY REP. OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO (BTO), CHAIRMAN, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON NIGER DELTA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (NDDC) AT THE COMMISSIONING OF THE 1050 BED-SPACE HOSTEL BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE
Protocol
It is yet a great pleasure to have us all gathered here today for another landmark achievement of the new Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
I call it the new NDDC — it has been a reign of commissioning projects since a new administration took over the affairs of the commission — from the agency's Head Office commissioning in March to the 176-flat police barracks in September and now this modern and well-appointed students hostel. All within a spate of 9 months.
These are strides that are groundbreaking and we remain grateful to Almighty God for the opportunity to herald these giant feats.
These achievements are reflective of the commission's desire to put up people and community oriented projects.
As stakeholders, we expressed assurance to ensure every kobo of the Niger Deltans work for them and these results we have seen over the months are evidences of our resilience, tenacity and resolutness.
Excitement fills my heart today that the Interim Administrator, Mr. Effiong Akwa, has led relentlessly to complete this project. This hostel would not only provide comfortable accommodation to our students but it would also reiterate the commitment of the NDDC to delivering on its mandate, regardless of politics.
This complex is designed to accommodate 1,000 students (500 males and 500 females), with modern facilities like WiFi, sports arena, food court, spacious car park, high security fence, solar lightings, etc.
With this, the NDDC is renewing the confidence of Niger Delta in the government's seriousness to bring development to the communities. I also hold the strong belief that the project would further boost the morale of our students in their pursuit of academic excellence.
This project was necessitated as a result of the need to put up a conducive structure and atmosphere for our students to thrive and be nurtured in their academic pursuit. They are the future of this great nation and we must do the needful to ensure they are brought up in the right learning environment.
Our appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari is inexhaustible. If there is one person posterity will be kind to, it will be he who lives today preserving the future and you have shown that you are that man who cares about the generations to come.
Under your administration, NDDC has ceased to be what it used to be. A new dawn heralded and it has borne outstanding results. Thank you , Mr President!
I also thank the honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, whose tireless efforts has brought about this accomplishment.
I appreciate the stakeholders who give necessary suport from time to time. I'm talking about every Niger Deltans across all the communities in the region. They are the real stakeholders. With you and your immeasurable support, the NDDC has found it easier to operate and deliver on its mandate for us all.
We cannot deny there are no pending issues and challenges but evidently, we are gradually providing succour to these problems.
To everyone present here today, I thank you for making out time to celebrate us.
I can assure you that with our continual synergy and cooperation, we will continue to collectively birth more developmental projects in the mandate areas.
May the Niger Delta live long and may Nigeria succeed.
Thank You and God bless.
